Saturday Market, farmers market talk new mask requirement
Here's how the two markets are working to keep visitors safe.

County is up one case.

New mask requirements go into effect tomorrow in oregon... for outdoor spaces.

Governor kate brown released the new guidelines yesterday..

That require a mask, if you can't keep a six foot distance from others.

But what does this mean for businesses like the farmers market?

We have complete team coverage.

Kezi 9 news reporter kennedy dendy is live in downtown eugene to explain.

Kennedy?

Renee- here at 8th and oak* many gather every tuesday and saturday for the lane county farmers market.

And while wearing a face mask has always been recommended, i asked organizers today what their plan will be moving forward with this new rule.

I told that for those who do not have a face covering, the market will provide one for a donation.

And starting tomorrow, face coverings in outdoor spaces will be a requirement, when distance cannot be maintained.

While the market has been pleased with how shoppers have been cooperating... they will take a "gentle" approach for those who show up without one..

Because as one market manager says, it a mandate not a law.

Phoner: "our most important thing is to keep our shoppers safe and our staff safe, and we're just going to handle it in customer service type way and be polite and understand that there are, you know, a small portion of the population that can't wear a mask, you know, whether they have copd or asthma.

And, you know, and trying to be understanding and accepting the public as a whole."

She says the goal remains the same: to provide a safe and enjoyable experience for shoppers.

And as a small nonprofit, ross says they'll be handling it all as politely as possible.

Health officials say it important to have compassion and consideration for businesses because it a learning process for all right now.
