Huntington County schools unveils re-entry plan to return to school

Parents will have the option to enroll their students in a completely virtual curriculum, however, students who choose that path will be unable to participate in-person for extracurricular activities.

Huntington county community schools releasing their reopening plan today.

Fox 55's jeremy masukevich tells us what changes students and parents can expect to start the school year.

Nat chgon i think our kids need the interaction.

I think that kiddos need to learn in a school environment hccsc parent chgon baker says knowing her children would be missing out on one-to-one instruction lead her to the decision that.sot chgon my children will be going in person.

I have faith in our staff and huntington community schools.

If they have to wear masks in certain areas of the school i'm okay with that and i hope to help support that moving forward.unlike some districts in the area.

Hccsc will not require students to wear a mask at all times.

However, students will have to have one ready as they will be instructed to wear them in areas throughout the school where social distancing cannot be enforced.sot chadparents are going to have to be vigilant on that and just telling their child when they come to school they aren't going to have to wear that mask every part they are in throughout the building, but there are just going to be times when we are unable to social distance that they will have to wear the mask.

Superintendent chad daugherty says those areas include the cafeteria, hallways, and school busses and that each student will receive a cloth mask to start the year.sot chad our three things are going to be social distancing, cohorting students or assigned seats, and then masks.

Those three things are going to help us mitigate the spread of covid-19.parents will have the option to enroll their child in a completely virtual curriculum.but, students who choose that path will be unable to participate in- person for extracurriculars.

Daugherty says he expects some staffing adjustments if the number of students who enroll virtually continues to rise.

Sot chad its kind of a moving target when you are looking at the virtual learning options.

We started with 45 students choosing the virtual option that was almost two weeks ago now we are up to 375.

Other changes include additional time in between classes for cleaning, and facing desks towards the front in classrooms.daugherty says parents should also be checking the temperature and monitoring for potential covid-19 symptoms with their student.sot chad we are just trying to make sure all of our students are safe and our families feel like they are safe when they are sending their child to school.in huntington, jeremy masukevich, fox 55 news
