Indiana schools prepare for mask mandate

East Allen County School District and Northwest Allen County School District are finalizing plans for the school year with the mask mandate.

Governor holcomb's mask mandate as well.

Some districts already have a plan in place, while others are in the process of implementing one.fox 55's jentill neal talked to some districts about what that will entail.

Now that governor eric holcomb is implementing a mask mandate, east allen county and northwest allen county school districts have put the final touches on their back to school plans.governor holcomb: our kids should not be getting mixed messages throughout the day.

When they leave school grounds, they need to see that everyone is doing what they're doing that best practices are best for all by slowing or stopping many times the unknowingly transmission of covid-19.at last night's east allen county school board meeting, they discussed the full re-opening plan where the board gave consensus to move forward.it's outlined on the district's website.throughout much of the day, students and faculty are expected to wear masks.>22:35:17-22:35:33"face coverings will be worn when staff and students are transitioning from the bus, transitioning between classes and the hallways, and while they are waiting in lines.

There may be opportunities where students may remove their coverings in the classroom when social distancing is possible."

Northwest allen county school district also has a plan in the works but they're awaiting some final steps.>22:40:02- "northwest allen county schools are still working on details of the plan we have.

We are submitting it to the allen county department of health for their review and feedback."of course, there are exceptions in the governor's mandate for medical reasons: governor holcomb:we will apply mandatory mass wearing for students in the third grade and above, faculty and staff, volunteers and others who may be in a school or for co-curricular or extracurricula r activities, with exceptions for strenuous physical activities.
