The Evansville Vanderburgh School Corporation says two student-athletes within the district have tested positive for COVID-19.

"right now currently in the evsc we have two active positive cases within our student athletes" evsc district athletic director andy owens would not elaborate on which sport, grade, or school the positive cases were associated to.

High school athletic practices in indiana started back in late june.

The district says there are over 600 student athletes spread across five high schools "the active positive cases, thats not a personal attack on those two, coivd is out there, its not a global pandemic we are dealing with it the best we can" at least one local coach we spoke with is concerned about contact sports.

"i have no idea i have said the phrase don't touch each other, but its way more than i thought id ever say" marc sapoznik - is the varsity boys soccer coach at central high school - the long time soccer coach says there are questions still looming over athletics - even he doesn't have the answers to- "the reality is working with high school boys we try to get the socially distance the best we can, we play a contact sport so we are going to be close to each other, i have some concerns about what that will look like once we start playing games" the school district says they have taken all precautions to notify everyone involved including staff, coaches, students, and parents.

According to the district, this will not delay the start of any practices or games scheduled within evsc.the conditions of the students involved have not been released.
