Hybrid learning system.

It's an effort to limit class sizes for the safety of everyone on campus.

News 18's dakota simon has the story.

Dak standup: as students return to campus here at purdue university one of the biggest questions is how will an education be learned safely.

Well the university is partnering with professors all over campus like the one's here at knoy hall of technology for a hybrid model.

Dak: dr. nathan mentzer's 2020 has been like many of ours..

Different is the word that comes to mind..

Nat as he enters his classroom on campus at purdue..

You'll notice the tables and chairs are spread out for the safety of his students surrounding covid-19..

Should they come to class..

Nathan: for one reason or another they may need to be remote for one or more days during this semester.

Mentzer is just one of purdue's faculty members who have workshopped the university's new hyflex system over the summer..

It's a system designed to allow students to work in the classroom or at home..

Mentzer: using a microphone and earbuds, they have simultaneous conversations at the whole group level, or small group level.

The technology is microsoft teams..

And it allows professors to interact in real time..

Even with students learning from home..

But those who are at home..

Chantal levesque- bristol puts it simply..

Clb: they're really not missing out on anything..

Now..

Even if you miss a class of any kind..

Or a live lecture you can access a recorded version online..

Clb: i think that is the way of the future..

It's all part of an year that's going to require an open mind..

Nathan: be flexible and understand that it's going to be a little different than it used to be.

Dak standup: classes here on campus in west lafayette are scheduled to begin on monday.
