TERRE HAUTE NORTH VS. NORTHVIEW

To in the and welcome good evening good evening and welcome to in the zone.... have to be honest with you, i didn't know if we'd get to tonight with all the uncertainity surrounding the coronavirus, but like all the teams and players sports 10 is estatic to have another high school football season in the wabash valley... we aren't sure how long its going to last, but we're going to cover it until we're told not to.... we did have a few teams out tonight in quarantine, but we have highlights from nine games including terre haute south and linton both looking to pull road upsets against ranked opponents.... west vigo, south vermilion, washington and north daviess were all looking to open the season with home victories and we have the big showdown between terre haute north and northview.... that's the game we're starting the show with....terre haute north head coach chris barrett described the showdown against northview as a backyard brawl.... lots of line for both teams, but for different reasons.....for the patriots they want to play better than they have the last two years against the knights..... and for northview, beating terre haute north is big.....its something they've only done three times in school history... this one took place at northview.... terre haute north would take their opening drive in for a score...donovan cherry rips off 26 of his 91 yards in the game....patriots up seven-nothing... keegan garrison and braxton sampson had a connection tonight...the northview qb and tight end hook up for 28 yards... later in the drive...garrison, great job of avoiding the rush...on the run he fires a bullett to sampson for a five yard touchdown reception....that ties the game at seven...sampson had 123 yards receiving... next time northview gets the ball...great screen play by the knights...they get it to korbin allen.....the knights star running back has lots of green space and lineman in front of him...i thought he was taking it to the house....he gets tripped up at the four after a 59 yard reception.... you have to let the guy who got you there finish it and northview does...allen from a yard out...knights 14-7... late first half...northview trying to go up two scores but the north defense gets a key interception from jayson cottrell... couple plays later north coughs up the football...sampson recovers for northview...knights took a 14-7 lead into halftime... third quarter....connor lou-tz rips off a 43-yard run all the way down to the northview three-yard line.... donovan cherry would tie the game at 14 as he carries a whole host of northview defenders into the endzone... fourth quarter...north qb jace russell rolls out and finds jaden wayt in the endzone for a five yard td catch...patriots up 21-14 with 6:41 to go in the game... here comes northview...allen's second score on the ground ties the game at 21 and we're heading to overtime....what a season opener for both teams... northview got the ball first in overtime...the knights didn't go anywhere and they miss their field goal... so north gets the ball, any score by the patriots and this game is over... head coach chris barrett told me in the preseason he's going to put the ball in his qb jace rusell hands and let him make plays..

I see why...russell with the sweet cutback and he trots in from 10 yards out on third and goal to end the contest with the game-winning td run... what a play and finish by jace russell... terre hatue north wins a overtime thriller 27-21.... the senior qb said this is a moment he'll never forgot.....
