Fewer students on campus as the University holds classes for the Fall semester

Back in class for the 2020 fall semester this semester will be a lot different because of the coronavirus.

Wtva's wayne hereford joins us live from campus where he spoke with an administrator and students about facing coronavirus challenges this year.

It does not look like the typical fall semester here at ole miss.

You would usually see a lot more people moving around campus this time of year.

But there have been 181 cases on campus so far which means things will be a lot different this fall.

"i'm excited to be back .its just kind of weird because we're not on campus .

This is my only in-person class."

Sophmore madison van doss attended her psychology class outside under the trees on the loop at ole miss.

For she and her classmates, this is something new for the 2020 fall semester.

Madeline lee is a sophmore this year too.

"right now its very different like on the first day last year there were people everywhere.its just very empty but its still good to be back i feel like the ole miss spirit is still here."

Administrator say taking classes at ole miss will be a lot different this semester.

Students will attend class online and on campus too.

Jim zook is the university's chief marketing communications officer at ole miss.

He says the university has prepared for this day for months.

"first off we've got a symptom checker app so that everyday before they come to campus before they head out to class they can check their symptoms and make sure that they are healthy are get some guidance if they are not feeling well."

Zook says if students feel well they should wear a mask to campus and practice social distancing.

There are lots of other preacautions such as plexiglass sheilds in classrooms, hand sanitizers along the way and many other protocols.

In fact, the university offered free masks and sanitizers to students.

Its life on campus during the coronavirus.

Brownishia clark is a grad student.

"usually its so many people here and its not much parking.

But it was so much parking when we came like its so empty.

And it takes away a little of the ole miss experience."

Marketing officer jim zook says the university is conducting a public health campaign on campus as well as digital promotions.

There's is even a contact tracing team here on campus .
