Many animals had to be left behind when people evacuated as the bear fire raced through butte county.

Actions news now reporter dani masten in oroville today and visited an animal shelter where people can bring their livestock.

Here at the north valley animal disaster group large animal shelter, livestock is being brought here every couple of hours and animals like these are being taken care of in a safe environment sot/ lori grande/volunteer at large animal shelter "we take in pretty much anything that is not a domestic animal.

We will care for them, get them vet treatment if needed, if they have any special needs, we will take care of that regarding feeding, things like that.

We want the owners to..

They have enough to worry about so we don't want them to have anything to worry about, so we take care of that for them."

Volunteers tell me they currently have over 270 animals here at the shleter but also tell me they know of at least 3o animals that still haven't been found or claimed sot/lori grande/volunteer at large animal shelter "we have a lot of lose animals running around out there.

People have let their animals lose, so we are picking up a lot of lose animals, so if you are missing your animal and you go to your house and they are not there, please call the 895-0000 number.

We have some animals here that are strays that we mark as strays that aren't claimed yet."

Dani stand up volunteer lori grande tells me these are very emotional times and is thankful to be able to care for these animals sot/lori grande/volunteer at animal shelter "i've been doing this for 11 years, and it is very hard for volunteers to stay home and not help, so this is everything to us.

Everybody that animals know how much you just want to help, so the fact that we can be out here helping people during their worst times is wonderful."

Dani ll if you want to donate to help care for the animals staying here at the camelot equestrian park you can send monetary donations to the animal sehlter through the north valley animal disaster website.
