Herkimer County Working Solutions held a job fair for former Remington Arms workers on Wednesday afternoon.

Today for former remington workers.

The one that was schedules for tomorrow has been canceled due to concerns over rising covid cases... news channel 2's caitlin irla joins us live here in the studio to tell us about the other ways former remington employees can get help.

Good evening.

Nearly 600 remington workers lost their jobs after the company filed for bankruptcy this fall.

Herkimer county working solutions is doing what they can to help these workers who have been through so much.

Only about 100 people attended today's job fair due to covid restrictions... but there are other ways for former remington workers to get help.

Working solutions is not only trying to get those who lost their jobs re- employed, but they also want them to understand the benefits they have under the trade act program.

"we've been working with folks from remington since they got laid off.

We know that these are incredibly hardworking, valuable employees.

My office has been delivering services to them to explain a lot of the benefits that are available to them but we were also getting many calls from local employers like you see behind me that were really in need of people and knew the reputation of the remington workers and really wanted to be able to connect with them."

:27 piseck says she will be sending out a list of employers and positions available to the former remington workers who were not able to make it to the job fair... as well as posting them to facebook.

She says she also hosts information sessions every morning at 10 o'clock at working solutions by appointment only.

Anyone with any questions can contact the herkimer county working solutions office at 315-867-1400.

Jason, back to you.

Before the job fair.... remington workers lined up for a drive- thru milk giveaway put on by the dairy farmers of america, garelick farms and the cny labor council.

300 gallons of milk were given to the ilion workforce - now without a job.

(samantha deriso, president, cny labor council) tc : 04:09 "we are here for solidarity, one thing that we know for sure is it doesn't matter what party line you're with, you are a worker first and union jobs support communities.

You are able to come together as a family and when you're a part of the union that's what it's all about."

Today's drive was for remington workers only.
