Only 12 days remain until inauguration day and as leaders are calling for peace and law and order -- division remains strong.

Kezi 9 news reporter kennedy dendy spoke to an expert at oregon state university about the reality of the road to healing for the country.

Many watched in shock and frustration-- on both sides wednesday, after our nation's capitol became the center of violence and fatal riots.

Nats christopher: "the capitol building had not been breached since the war of 1812 -- to see it happen and to see it happen by american citizens is certainly a little appalling."

Osu political expert christopher stout said it is crucial that americans come together for what matters the very most.

Christopher: "the more and more polarized we are, the more threatened or to democracy gets and i think most people don't want that."

6 bridge: stout described wednesday's events as a wakeup call and says that what happens over the next few weeks will be a critical glimpse at what the future holds when biden takes office.

But even through the division, he says seeing eye to eye can be achieved.

Christopher: "so for example a stimulus check.

There's a lot of republicans and democrats who agree with that and that's got bipartisan support in the house and probably good bipartisan support in the senate and people might see that, you know, there's opportunities to work together."

Eugene resident dana fleming shared her thoughts on the transition of power -- as president elect joe biden take office on the 20th.

Dana: "i'm hoping for good change."

She along with several others i spoke to say that whichever side you lean toward -- stopping democracy in its tracks, is far from the progress many hope the country can make.

Dana: "ali i can do is pray and hope for light and peace with the upcoming administration."
