Starting on monday - redstone arsenal will officially begin using its facial recognition technology in three of its entry lanes -- lanes three and four at gate nine - and lane three at gate one.
The lanes are marked with "s- o-v only" - which stands for "single occupant vehicle."
As you approach one of these lanes - a camera will scan your face through the front windshield of your car and compare it to its database.
Once approved -- you will see the red "x" above the guard station turn into a green arrow and you can move forward.
Garrison commander - colonel glenn mellor - says this new system not only promotes expediency -- but also safety during the pandemic.
There's no exchange of id's or anything else.
You don't even have to roll down your window with facial recognition.
It just measures some data points on your face and allows you to roll through at about 3-5 miles per hour through the gate, so you never even have to stop.
Redstone is also responsible for testing this technology for the rest of the army.
Colonel mellor says so far -- they haven't seen any recognition issues for anyone of darker
