The huntsville community is mourning the loss of a 17- year-old mae jemison high schooler.

Deu'nta moore died saturday morning from his injuries after he was shot friday night.

A basketball star at school - he dreamed of turning pro.

But his life was cut short just a week before his 18th birthday.

Today - moore's peers had their first day back at jemison high school.

And the administration provided counselors to assist students and staff members who might need someone to talk to.

An un-expected death in a high school community can have a large affect on teenagers' mental health..

Counselors in the area said let your child express their emotions while greiving.

Huntsville therapist...travis davis... said the best way to remmeber de-onte moore is to have some kind of ritual...de- on-tes basketball coach...said this: ralpheal graves just take something from roo and plant it into their own life.

Davis having some kind of ritual would be good for a lasting memory and a good memory for such an untimely event.

Davis works with adolescents in the community...he said you should not surpress your childs feelings following a sudden loss.

Davis parents can look at the behavior of their children, see if there's any performance or loss in school.

Counselor..ida wadsworth said during the grieving priocess...it's important for your child to find someone they can open up to.

Ida wadsworth, liscensed counselor in their life...a lot of times...they think the world isn't as safe as it was before.

Just finding that safe space, sometimes talking to your parents and teachers is often difficult.

Davis at the moment, they may be confused, but there is help and help for you to process the emotions that you're feeling.

Both councilors i spoke to said that parents should understand that every child grieves differently and that emotionally... they will not grieve the same way an adult would.
