Amy, how is chico unified implementing the guidelines?

Chico unified secondary director john shepard says the district is following guidance from the state..

But he says som* of the guidance is up for interpretation for outdoor sports like football.

So he says it can be interpreted differently by different districts or schools.

He says their criteria is to keep kids safe that is it..

Shepard says some teams interpret the guidance that their outdoor teams need to wear masks even while competing.

In chico unified they did not want to make a mask mandate because kids might have underlying conditions where they can't wear one.

"we ask student athletes to wear masks, when appropriate, during competition.

If they are not directly competing they must wear their masks, coaches musts wear their masks, while in competition, direct engaged competition, we encourage them to wear masks, however we understand some students may not be able to."

Shepard says all of the districts in butte county work together to make sure they are on the same page at competition.

Shepard says they are happy to be able to get all athletes back in competition.
