Storms continue to roll through this evening.

I'm hearing we have breaking news from waay-31's breken terry breken, let's go out lives to the shoals.

Breken, what do you have new for us?

Breken terry: yeah, that's right, carson.

I you actually just got off the phone with florence police chief ron tyler and he tells me that a florence police officer was struck by lightning earlier in the day.

The officer was in the mars hills area putting out barriers when he was struck by lightning.

But officials tell me that his training kicked in.

He was able to tell dispatch where he was at.

He was coherent, he was talking.

Some other florence police officers actually arrived on scene and that's when they transported him to the north alabama medical center.

That oimp does have some burns from the lightning strike but he is going to be okay.

So that is some good news that we've got.

There's also some flooding on highway 72 in the cherokee barton area over in colbert county as well as flooding on highway 11 in the red bay area.

But again, florence police officer struck by lightning.

He is going to be okay.

Officials say his training kicked in and that is basically what helped get him to the hospital so quickly.

Florence police are going to be doing an update with us here in a short while about that officer live
