VEHICLES COLLIDE, 3 HOSPTALIZED, GOODRICH TEXAS, 02/28/24...

Failure to Yield Hospitalizes 3, GOODRICH, February 28, 2024 - At 11:40 am on February 28, 2024, a brown 2016 Nissan Murano, driven by Wayne Mathews, 63, of Cypress, was south-bound on US-59.

Mathews broad sided a vehicle that suddenly pulled off of the north end of Loop 393 and failed to yield.

The impact caused Mathews' vehicle to roll and came to rest in the center median, upside down.

The other vehicle, a red 2022 Chevy Silverado pickup, driven by Jill Duke, 69, of Goodrich, continued across 59, crossed the north-bound lanes, and came to rest in the grass on the north-bound side.

Allegiance Ambulance Service was dispatched to the scene along with the Goodrich and Livingston Volunteer Fire Departments, Deputy Sanford with the Polk County Sheriff's Office, and Corporal Ramey Bass with the Texas Highway Patrol.

Mathews and his female passenger were entrapped in their upside down vehicle.

Volunteer Firemen were able to safely extract both.

Mathews was flown from the scene by Air Life Air Medical while his passenger and Jill Duke was transported by ambulance to CHI Livingston Memorial Hospital with undisclosed injuries.

One lane of traffic on both sides of 59 were blocked during investigation and cleanup.

Duke is facing a citation for failure to yield.

Mathews' vehicle was recovered by Smith Towing out of Livingston while Duke's vehicle was recovered by Fawbush Wrecker ouf of Goodrich.

This accident remains under investigation by the Texas Highway Patrol.
