Palestinian President discusses elections with EU official

(MENAFN - Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) RAMALLAH, April 28 (KUNA) -- Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas on Wednesday met with the European Union (EU) Representative Sven Kuhn von Burgsdorff at presidential headquarters in Ramallah, where they discussed latest elections developments.According to the Palestinian News Agency (WAFA), that during the meeting President Abbas stressed the importance of the EU continuing to pressure the Israeli government to hold elections in Jerusalem according to the agreements which was signed under the international auspices.President Abbas briefed the EU official on the exerted efforts to conduct the elections in the Palestinian territories, including Jerusalem.On his part, the EU representative affirmed the European support to hold the elections, pointing out that the EU is communicating with the Israelis to hold the elections in East Jerusalem as happened in the previous elections.Meanwhile, the Palestinian leadership will meet on Thursday to discuss the elections, mainly Jerusalem issue.Moreover, President Abbas, during a meeting of the Central Committee (Fatah) last Sunday said, "no way will we accept to hold the general elections without the presence of Jerusalem and its people."
