(MENAFN - Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) KUWAIT, June 29 (KUNA) -- 1938 -- Legislative elections were held under reign of Sheikh Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah. The elections, held at Al-Saqer Diwaniya, were the first in the State of Kuwait. The electorals consisted of 320 renowned personalities who selected 14 people out of 20 candidates. Sheikh Abdullah Al-Salem Al-Sabah was selected as speaker of the Legislative Council. 1961 -- Iraqi naval forces opened fire on a number of Kuwaiti ships carrying food supplies via Shatt Al-Arab. 1975 -- Kuwait Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Salem Al-Sabah signed three laws over Kuwait membership in Vienna Convention on Consular Relations, the Arab League privilges and immunities agreement and the Vienna convention on development of international law principles. 1981 -- Mohammad Yusuf Al-Nesf, former Minister of Social Affairs and Labor in Kuwait's first government on January 17, 1962, passed away at age of 70. The deceased was director of Public Works Department in 1945, member of the Municipal Council in 1954, member of the organizing authority of the supreme council for national affairs in 1959, member of the organizing authority for the Constituent Assembly in 1961 and member of the Constituent Assembly, and member in the knowledge (Maaref) council. 1986 -- Kuwait Amir Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah signed a law to establish the International Islamic Charitable Organization. The Kuwait-based IICO is an independent entity offering humanitarian assistance to people in need around the globe. 2006 -- Some 340,248 voters headed to polling stations to elect 50 representatives out of 249 candidates for Kuwait National Assembly, or parliament. The candidates competed in 25 constituencies, two from each. It was the first election that saw candidacy of women. Twenty-seven women ran for election but none won. Turnout was 66 percent. 2013 -- Yusuf Al-Shaalan, of Kuwait, won the Gulf Sabre Championship, held in the Qatar capital, Doha. 2013 -- Abdullatif Al-Surayye, Director General of the Central Agency for Information Technology, won the e-government leadership award in an event held in Dubai, UAE. 2014 -- Central Bank of Kuwait issued the sixth edition of banknotes of Kuwaiti Dinar, which has an upgraded security and technical specifications.
