A group of some 20 protesters briefly blocked a road on Monday (December 2) near the venue where a United Nations summit on climate change was taking place.
"We are a global movement trying to raise the climate emergency through direct action.
We have to get people to pause and understand, especially our leaders, we need systemic change," said Sam Smithson, a protester and member of Extinction Rebellion, a climate activist group that organized Monday's protest.
The two-week "Conference of the Parties", or COP, as it is known, comes as extreme weather events around are being linked to manmade global warming, putting pressure on the summit to strengthen the implementation of the 2015 Paris Agreement on limiting the rise in temperature.
The summit runs until Dec.13.
Climate protesters demand the fashion industry does more for the environment, but this has generated a mixed response from brands.
