Tonight at 5 some in redding say a massive parking structure project - has become a refuge for the city's homeless.
Action news now reporter karen alvarez shows us what businesses hope the city will do to keep transients out of the popular shopping area.
Throughout the day the first and second floor of this parking garage here in downtown redding is packed.
However, concerned people who live and shop here say homeless people are using the bottom portion of the parking garage as a camp.
I was there earlier and saw a few homeless people& not too many.
However, local business owners tell me that in just the last couple of days, with the rain and cold weather, they number of homeless people sleep in the parking garage.
I spoke to a woman who owns a jewelry store at this plaza and she tells me that she worried about this affecting her business and it she manage with.
After 40 years of doing business, all in the downtown mall, there moving a business after 40 years, you here for the duration.
You lose all your clients if you move across town or move anywhere&and where do you move where it isn even walking through the door they generally do not come in, but it still something you don to look at all day.
Other local business owners tell me that as long as they are not loitering the area, it problem for them.
Now i reached out to the city for a comment to see whether they were aware of this issue and have not heard back.
Live in downtown redding, karen alvarez, action news now, coverage you can count on.# the parking structure is being demolished to make room for a multi-story, mixed-use development.#
