How is at-home learning going?

It's been a month, so we checked in with a local superintendent about how at-home learning is going.

A month now that schools have been closed.

News channel two's gary liberatore checked in with a local superintendent to get her take on these first four weeks.

Gary, good evening.

Good evening jason.

The end of the school year is fast approaching...and the question remains...will kids here in new york state be heading back.

To class in the next month or so...(((or((( just wait until september?

No one knows, inlcuding local superintendents.

Every school district is different...and within each school, teaching and learning at home...comes down each teacher...in a class by class basis... .

None .

None tc : 00:26 "some of our students receive packets of worksheets that i mailed to the home, other students are using online platforms, like google, google hangouts, others are using online platforms that are not interactive its like a depository where materials are left so children can complete assignments and upload them and teachers can comment, those are things like google classroom so it really depends on the teacher in the program."

Oneida-herkimer- madison boces district superintendent patricia kilburn says she has heard good things about at home learning sop ar...but she toolid ratehr see kids learn in the classroom...howeve r only when it is deemed safe.

Tc : 07:12 "i think it's an adjustment.notr families also to learn from home from the home environment but so far we're hearing good things."

As far as whether schools will re- open before teh school year ends...or stay closed until the fall like some states around teh country have alrerady ruled...kilburn says she takes her directive from new ork state...and says as soon as the govberor says it's safe to reopen schools...schools will reopen.> although new york city mayor bill de blasiop says kids in new york city will not be going back until the fall...givernor cuomo says it's not his call...and that it will be a state-wide decision...but it's too early to make that call.
