Testing Remains Consistent At Local Hot Spot

Ashley Carter was in Guntersville after learning the reasons people are getting tested are changing.

County in north alabama.

In the last hour .... testing at the marshall county drive- thru testing site wrapped up.

Despite the county's status as a hot spot - the health department says the number of people tested hasn't picked up!

Waay 31's ashley carter joins us live in guntersville after learning that while the number of tests each week is staying consistent - the reason people are getting tested is changing.

Ashley?

The testing is done just behind me here at the health department.

I saw about four or five tests administered today.

The clinic supervisor told me they have plenty of supplies to meet testing demand - and lately they're testing more people who don't necessarily have coronavirus symptoms. .

Sarah shelton, clinic supervisor marshall co.

Health dept.: '"we've been testing about 70 to 100 a week so we've tested a little over 500."

Sarah shelton is the clinic supervisor at the marshall county health department.

She told me the weekly number doesn't change much - but the number of people they test in one day can vary.

Health dept.: "some days you know we may test ten and some days we may test thirty.

It's back and forth."

She told me that so far the reopening of some businesses hasn't affected how many tests they do.

But shelton says the reason people are coming to get tested has shifted.

Health dept.: "a lot of people are just worried and they may not be having symptoms and that kind of thing."

Shelton says the clinic is not running low on any tests or personal protective equipment - so they're confident they can continue the free testing while keeping staff safe.

Because things have remained consistent for the most part - shelton said not much is changing at the clinic.

They are still remaining open five days a week from 12-30 to 4 p m if you want to be tested - it's free but you do need to make an appointment.
