City of Red Bay not opening water park for Memorial Day weekend

For the first time in its 48 year history, the Red Bay City Fun Park will not open over Memorial Day Weekend.

It's water park would bring to the city over memorial day weekend... wtva's evan hensley tells us why city leaders decided to keep it closed... as live many residents here in red bay were hoping to get out and enjoy some of the nice weather we have seen over the last week... many of them hoping to get out to the towns water park scheduled to open this weekend... but because of the coronavirus, it will remain closed... vo parks and recreation director dean hubbard says this is the first time the pool won't be open on memorial day weekend in it's 48 years of being open to the public... the pool hosts around 80 people a day to birthday parties, water aerobics and general swimming over the summer... hubbard says children both in red bay and outside areas like tupelo have relied on this as a place to have a fun time... the pool also serves as a popular summer job for local high schoolers and college students... hubbard is just ready to get the pool back open... sot dean hubbard - red bay parks and recreation director "if anyody is ever in the pool business they know they aren't going to make a lot of money.

So it is just a community service.

It draws people into our community.

It is important to use because they will stop and mcdonals and buy gas."
