We're well into three months into the coronavirus pandemic, we are still seeing spikes in cases, so what are our state health officials doing to try to contain the spike and reduce the spread - again.

Joining us now is dr karen landers with the alabama department of public health.

Dr landers.

Good morning.

Pause memorial day holiday was the jump off point for a number of people.

Many of them getting out .

We're seeing the spikes in cases because of that.

How do you re-instill the importance of social distancing and reel people back in to tell them hey we got to start doing the right thing again?

The end of governor ivy's amended safer at home order it expires next friday, 3 july.

Given the trends that we've seen in the last three months, what's your recommendation as a state health official to the governor in regards to the order going forward?

Some people i have talked to say the messaging all along has been mixed and a bit confusing.

Don't wear masks.

Then we have more data.

Wear masks to protect others from you.

The cdc is testing now to see if masks can also protect wearers.

What do you tell people who are trying to do the right thing but find it hard to keep up with all of this>?

Should wearing a mask be mandatory?

How do you enforce it?

Let's talk about businesses who have emplouyees that test positive.

One local business that was impacted said it self reported to the health department which did not encourage it to close.

The health official says its not a requirement to close ... only a recommendation to close long enough to clean.

Should it be a requirement to close?
