Visitation restrictions back in effect

Some long-term care facilities enter lockdown again

Rubin spoke with a local husband who has only seen his wife three times since the covid-19 pandemic began.

Keith says: a picture i have here is just a wedding picture this is from 1966, keith and mary met in college our $200 wedding and have been together ever since.

But you know it doesn't matter how much you pay or how little we've been married 54 years a few years ago, mary was diagnosed with alzheimer's.

Keith says: "she's a remarkable woman" after being placed in a memory care facility, keith remained by her side -- visiting regularly ... until the coronavirus.

Keith says: we got a phone call that she had been moved to a different cottage where they would be able to spread them out a bit more but there would be a lock down and we would not be able to see her" only phone calls and visits through a window were allowed.

Keith says: "it was weeks, months actually before we were able to get in to see her again" in mid-june - keith was finally able to see mary again.

Keith says: "it had been so long i wondered if she would remember me" the visit and the two that followed were brief.

Keith says: "i can look up and there she is she sitting right there she sees me and she goes yay and then goes on for the next 10 minutes to finish her lunch so i know that she remembers me but lunch was pretty important at that point" then, last week, keith was told that visits are going back into lockdown.

Keith says: "the fact that we went several months without seeing each other and she did recognize me gives me hope" for now, keith is holding onto tht hope that mary will remember him the next time he sees her.

Keith says: "those glimmers those moments when she says oh i love you so much and gives you a hug that part is still there and as long as she still recognizes me will be ok but i know that that will someday be gone as well" alicia says: "keith says he doesn't
