The state says 10 more counties are to follow strict measures to prevent further spread of the coronavirus.

Mississippi's coronavirus cases go up... the governor is hoping new restrictions in more areas will bring the numbers back down.

In today's news conference wtva's alyssa martin said governor tate reeves explained why he added 10 new counties to the state's restricted list..

This afternoon... governor tate reeves said it's time to "put on the mask" in counties where the coronavirus has surged over the past week.

He said... mississippi residents need to make the extra effort..

In public."

" all of us as mississippians must lean in, those of us who get up and go to work everyday and provide food for their family, we need you to do a little more about wearing a mask in public.."

On sunday, gov.

Tate reeves signed two orders that extend his previous safer at home order and requires ten new counties to wear masks in public.

Take a look the 13 counties included in the original order are nearly all in central or south mississippi..

The list only included grenada county in our viewing area..

The governor added ten more on sunday... again..

Most of the troubled areas are still to the south and over in the delta... put it did at panola and tate counties in north mississippi.

Reeves said... as the number go up... more counties could be added... as we told you last week... some local areas are just below the threshold to be included on the list..

"if you are not in those 23 counties , it does not mean the virus is not in your community.

Quite the contrary.

The virus is in every community.."

Along with the additional counties... the governor also extended the state's safe return order.

The order is now in effect until monday, august 3rd.

The governor said he included two other policies in his weekend orders... one allowed state-un pools to remain open as long as social distancing guidelines are maintained..
