Gov. Walz Issues mask Mandate

Ahead of the Governor's announcement , we spoke with Minnesotans about their thoughts on the statewide mask mandate.

Today off with breaking news.

Minnesota governor tim walz announced a statewide mask mandate.

The executive order goes into effect sunday.

It requires you to wear a mask in indoor businesses and indoor public settings.

Governor walz says by combatting the spread of covid?

"*19, masking will help protect our neighbors, keep our businesses open, and get us on track to return to the activities we love.

If you violate this executive order you will be guilty of a petty misdemeanor and if you're convicted you can be hit with a fine.

If a business violates the order?

"* they'll be gu of a misdemeanor too and can be punished by a fine and serve up to 90 days in jail.

The order also requires students from kindergarten through 12th grade to wear a mask if school is in session this fall.

With this mask mandate, and with the things we have done previosly to this, i think it's possible for us not to have the darker days behind us, but for us to start moving forward.

If we can get a 90 to 95 percent compliance?

It's really nothing new for rochester residents.

The city's mandate has been requiring people to wear a face covering in indoor businesses and indoor public settings for nearly two weeks.

Now ?

"* that mandate is across the state and minnesotans tell me it's about time.xxx i think it's a good idea if we're ever going to get rid of this virus they should've mandated the masks when this first came about.

I think we would've had it under control a little better than we do now you know if you're going to stop the spread of this virus it's a necessary evil and i totally support it the statewide mask mandate goes into effect this saturday, july 25th.
