Kate brown's guidelines she laid out yesterday for the re-opening of schools in the fall has received both support and push back.

Kezi 9 news reporter emma jerome is live in eugene kicking off our team coverage she spoke with local districts and the teacher's union in our area .

Chynna - everybody wants kids back in the classroom this fall -- but only if its safe.

Under kate brown's new guidelines -- counties have very specific limits on the number of cases they can have before schools can open their doors - and our areas largest teachers union says while it is a step in the right direction they don't know if its enough however - educators in our area don't think we are ready for that yet sabrina gordon has been a teacher for 20 years and she's now the president of the eugene education association - she told me it's important that the opinion of the educator is heard by the district and those making the decisions.

I asked her if she felt like that's happening here in eugene "the educator's voice in eugene has not yet been a significant part of the planning for starting schools up in the fall.

That being said, i know both district as are working to get there.

On monday - educators from across the state made their way up to salem demanding that there be two weeks of no new coronavirus cases before classrooms were opened back up again gordon says this wasn't organized by the eea and those aren't necessarily demands they have, but she did say that when asked - 90 percent of the 15- hundred members of the e-e-a said they don't believe schools have the custodial capacity to reopen safely after yesterdays announcement - districts in our area were forced to reconsider their plans for reopening - but what does that mean exactly?
