SACS and NACS first day of school

Wednesday marked the first day of school for Northwest Allen and Southwest Allen County School Districts.

The first day of school for northwest allen and southwest allen county school districts.

Both districts saw fewer students walk through their doors this year compared to years past.fox 55's jentill neal talked to leaders from both districts about day one of the new school year.

Jentill?hunter, of course anticipation was pretty high for those who returned to school.

And the people i talked to say as the day went on it almost felt normal the way things ran smoothly.

However, the districts both had a concern with one thing.

Arcola elementary student lewen gackman couldn't wait to get back to school..."be with my new friends, and going to recess, and meeting my new teacher."with the guidelines in place for onsite learning, mom charlene clark is pretty excited too.>06:58:14-06:58:27 "i felt he had a good day and enjoyed meeting his new teachers and new procedures.

I didn't have any worries.

I felt good with the school."

While there were fewer students because of covid-19... traffic at northwest and southwest allen county schools was heavier than usual ... that's because parents decided to avoid the buses on day one.>06:55:03- "with some students out doing the remote learning option, it allowed us a little more space in our classrooms and allowed us to spread out among our buses so that was helpful from that stand point."downey says for the most part the day went how any other day would go except for students wearing masks and maintaining social distancing.>"the goal was to really keep track of who sits where and having seating charts to identify who is around.

That helped us to maintain and contain the spread easier should a case surface."same for southwest allen...>06:42:32-06:42:50"we have partitioned where recess happens.

We're shifting it depending on the day.

The rule of thumb is if they're alone or social distancing they can remove masks.

They're kids.

We have to make sure they're following the rules."as far as remote learning, both districts consider day one successful.06:45:48-06:46:02 "it's working.

If we can get that to work, it's going to help this year, but i also think it's going to give us more tools."

About 80% of students were on site for southwest allen county and 86.4 students were on site for northwest allen county.as time goes on, they predict more students will start using buses again to cut down on traffic.reporting live in allen county jentill neal... fox 55 news.
