Murder suspect pleads guilty in Otsego County

A man accused the death of a Worcester man has pleaded guilty.

Worcester man....enters a surprise guilty plea in otsego county couty.

Nicolas meridy of oneonta accepted a plea bargain made by the district attorney.

New channel 2's caitlin irla joins us live her in the studio to tell how much time he could spend behind bars.

Good evening kristen.

During a hearing to suppress statements given by police officers involved in the case, nicolas meridy unexpectedly pleaded guilty and accepted a plea bargain of 22 years to life in prison.

Meridy is the only adult charged in connection to the murder of kenneth robinson, in october.

Robinson was shot.... and his home was set on fire.

Otsego county district attorney john (meal) muehl says he was surprised by the plea.

2:37:12;01 2:37:29;26 "i had a conversation with his attorney and his attorney said i'm going to go talk to him again, it's been my advice that he take accept your offer which was 22 to life instead of 25 to life with the plea to murder in the second degree and when he came out from talking with his client he said hes going to agree to your offer and plead guilty."

Also charged in this case.... dylan robinson, the victim's son.

They're all being charged as adults.

There is a fourth teenager....only charged with robbery, not murder.

They have been offered plea deals as well.

Meridy is scheduled to be sentenced on october 26th in otsego county court.
