Because of the high levels of smoke and ash coming from this fire.... there is reduced air quality throughout the lower east utica calls came in shortly before 1:30 this morning of a large fire that was quickly extending to several floors of the building.

Newschannel 2's brent kearney is ((live(( for us this morning at the scene.

Brent... ((take live)) good morning katrina this is still a very active scene here on turner street.

The building is located right on the utica frankfort line.

Several fire crews from across the area are actively battling this fire.

The building has been abandoned for several years and utica fire chief scott ingersoll is reporting that so far no injuries have been reported.

Calls came in shortly before 1:30 this morning of a fire that was quickly extending to several floors of the building.

"this is a substaintially larger fire than we've had in the past here.

The rear of the building we've had fire throughout all the floors, the front portion here we have fire on three of the five floors, and it's burning down and up at the same time.

We have multiple collapse zones, and at this time we're not able to get to most of the building to get water on the fire."

Last year, two separate fires occurred at the same complex.

The city also held a meeting last year expressing their concern about the property and what should be done with it.

Again -- a reminder... there is reduced air quality throughout the lower east utica area due to smoke and ash coming from this major fire at the charles town mall.

Turner street and portions of bleeker street remain closed at this hour.

In herkimer county this morning.... new york state police confirm they are investigating
