The easiest decision for mshsaa this summer..

Just shut everything down and not allow schools and student- athletes to competer this fall..

But the association didn't want that..

They wanted to give student an opportunity to return to competition and activities..

This week, a few school districts hitting some bumps in the road here in the area, but the association still optimisitc... <<(nat sound: touchdown)"we're actually playing games and patience in making sure that all the wheels are going in on monday night... the lathrop announced a football coach tested positive with student- athletes symptoms...resulting in the team being (sot, chris fine: "it is tough for them to sit at home and do nothing and not hang out with friends, so our coaches just have to keep making contact with them and encourage other teammates and friends to keep in contact.")hours earlier monday...the savannah high school shut down for the day due to potential covid-19 exposure...and while the district has not confirmed it's covid-19 related, the next two varsity football games have been canceled...and excelsior springs, the team savannah played friday posted its team is now in quarantine...(nat sound)while many prepared for situations like this to happen this fall...mshsaa continues to believe the seasons can and will move forward without shutting down everything... (sot, mshsaa: "what helps that confidence is the seriousness that these acitons and it's not just an 'oh you know, that's another thing mshsaa is making us to do, but people are taking it seriously.")and when i asked mshsaa's jason west also about a threshold for shutting down...it's just like everything else right now..(sot, jason west: "we know we'll be there when we get there when we're there, but we don't have a set number of 75% of schools or things like that.

We want to have enough schools participating to have a competition.")>> west also says mshsaa officials were pleased with how well districts and football teams handled cancellations in week 1 and found teams to play in place... west also says officials hope sports can continue on...
