Lafayette police are under fire again... this time for how they handled an incident at acadiana lanes last night.
Video of officers arresting a teenager - now circulating all over social media.it happened around 11:30 at the bowling alley on ambassador caffery.we spoke with police today... they tell us they got a call that someone there had a gun... when they showed up, they found a teenager but no gun in sight.
Hours later, they showed back up for a traffic stop.tha's when his family member - a 16-year-old boy - got into an argument with officers that quickly escalated... leading to this viral video.the teen was arrested - charged with interfering, battery on a police officer and resisting arrest.interim chief scott morgan says after watching the video, he ordered an immediate investigation.
One officer will be placed on administrative leave according to lp's policy.
Two others will be temporarily pulled from regular duty while the investigation continues.
The video spread like wildfire... people across social media have chimed in with their thoughts... and now the lafayette parish naacp is speaking up.... the president releasing a statement today saying quote:once again, we find ourselves disturbed, witnessing excessive use of force against citizens, lack of deescalation tactics, and poor training; proving the sense of urgency for major police reform.
We look forward to working with the mayor-presiden's administration, community leaders, law enforcement agencies, and other stakeholders to insure these things do not happen again.
