Honoring veterans with a drive-by parade.

Today is veterans day - and across the country - people are finding new ways to honor those who have served our country.

You're taking a live look at the marine corps memorial in arlington virginia -- just one of the hundreds of cities where veterans day will look different this year.

In north alabama - the situation is no different.

Waay 31's ashley carter joins us live from downtown huntsville with how the community is still finding ways to honor our many veterans.

This year - most veteran's day activities will be held either virtually or by drive-thru only.

That's simply to keep everyone safe.

This morning at 10 a-m - the tut fan veteran's home will host a drive-thru parade.

Veterans will be seated along the front of the building as vehicles drive-by.

If you go - the facility encourages you to decorate you car, play patriotic music or wave flags as you go by!

This week - the v-a also released a comprehensive list of veterans day discounts for restaurants, hair salons, and stores.

Because of the pandemic - some businesses made the call to make their deals permanent instead of just today.

One veteran told me she's happy the community and organizations are still finding a way to honor the men and women who served.

"i think that's great that they are at least trying to honor all the veterans and try to do something either virtual or a drive thru parade."

The city of huntsville is airing last year's veterans day parade.

There's a list of other events happening across north alabama today on our website - waay t-v dot com.
