Family speaks after Vigo County Jail inmate dies

One family is grieving after their family member died in the vigo county jail.

This happened over the weekend.

News 10's porsha williams spoke with the family today.

We now bring you continuing coverage of what the family says is his untimely death.

Frederick whitlock did test positive for covid-19.

I reached out to the coroners office to check on the official cause of death.

The coroner told me no information would be released until the autopsy results were final.

Now the family is grieving his death.

His nephew marquis whitlock expressed his frustrations.

"i feel like it's a shame my uncle had to pass away with these circumstances without him being around his family and nobody getting to see him before he passed away."

Frederick whitlock's friend says he's worried about the other inmates in the vigo county jail.

"my knowledge is..

I'm concerned bout every inmate white black.

I'm concerned about them.

I think they ought to seek medical attention.

Sheriff john plasse says the vigo county jail has been..

And continues to take the necessay to keep the inmates safe.

"after we found out we had covid in the jail we have masks to everybody but unfortunatly not everybody uses the masks.

That's something that we really can't enforce."

The sheriff says they are in the process of testing everyone in the jail for covid-19.

Sheriff jon plasse says they should have those results in by wednesday.
