Fatigue...imagine being in a long term care facility... kentuckians living in those facilities have a higher percentage of dying if they get the virus...and they haven't been able to get a hug from loved ones in almost a year.

Today...as abc 36's monica harkins reports...they get a shot of hope toward changing that.

"are you ready?

Yes" it only takes 3 to 4 seconds to get a life saving vaccine... and as joe schroner put it... "joe schroner"is that all " monday...he's the first of thousands of kentuckians c-v-s and walgreens are vaccinating in long term care facilities.

Emilie abbott with cvs spent the day helping facilitate vaccinations in frankfort... "emily abbott: it's a really historic day.

We've been met with a lot of gratitude by the residents and the staff."butt abbott:"it's been a really hard year for everybody and they're really appreciate that we're participating in this effort to things a little more normal in our lives in the upcoming future."

Governor beshear says while the c-d-c recommended long term care facilities be among the first to get vaccines...kentucky 's data speaks for itself....2-thirds of all covid deaths are from long term care facilities.

"governor beshear: today is another shot at hope."

Hope of saving lives...but also helping healthcare workers ....uk healthcare's dr. ashley montgomery-yates says the hospitals are managing, but its been taxing physically and emotionally.

"montgomery- yates: the workers on the coivd unit are exhausted..there's a renewed sense of hope.

And we're not going to have to have these conversations with families anymore about their loved ones and about deaths."

Abbott...and gene hoover with walgreens both say the teams working on vaccinating kentucky's most vulnerable are honored to do so.

Hoover: "our teams are swelling with pride with regards to the opportunity to do that outreach and really make a difference in the lives of the individuals across the commonwealth."

And like this video of one of the very first long term care residents getting the shot last week...every dose is another chance at a life saved "nat pop woo " ...and is definitely something to celebrate.
