The container ship known as Ever Forward was released in Chesapeake Bay on the morning of April 17.

Ever Forward ran aground in the bay more than a month ago.

Carrying more than 5,000 containers, .

The ship had been on its way from Baltimore to Norfolk when it got stuck against the muddy bottom of the bay.

Approximately 500 containers had to be removed from Ever Forward in order to pry it free.

Two previous attempts to dislodge to ship had failed.

A high tide and the work of five tugboats and two other barges finally freed the ship.

Work crews had been dredging the bottom of the bay the surrounded Ever Forward.

In order to complete safe passage underneath the Chesapeake Bay Bridge, .

Water tanks were added to Ever Forward to weigh it back down again.

No injuries were reported as a result of Ever Forward running aground.

Officials say the incident also did not cause any damage or additional pollution to the area.

The Coast Guard has not stated, however, what caused the incident.

The ship will be examined before it is allowed to continue on to the Port of Baltimore
