Jordan halts flights from India to stop "double mutant" strain of coronavirus

(MENAFN) On Sunday, Apr. 25 after India saw a rise in coronavirus infections and recorded a "double mutant" strain of the virus, Jordan made a decision to suspend flights from the South Asian nation. The flight halt, proclaimed by Transport Minister Wajih Azaizeh, will go in 14 days as of Sunday. Azaizeh stated as cited by the state-owned Al Mamlaka TV station: "we made the decision after the double mutant variant of coronavirus appeared in India and we do not want any infections to occur in Jordan." He further said: "the report about a new double mutant variant of COVID-19 in India makes it necessary for us to take precautionary measures to keep the epidemiological situation stable" in Jordan.
