Coronavirus numbers by county: June 29, 2020

Local coronavirus statistics in Oneida, Herkimer and Otsego counties on June 29, 2020.

Did ask the county executive about the increase in positive tests results.

First he said it would not affect our phase four status at this point.

We are still meeting all the metrics and well within number of hospital beds and icu beds needed.

He did say there are two main factors for the increased numbers... the first is the reported positive covid-19 cases over the weekend of 25 employees of an aluminum manufacturer in montgomery county who reside in oneida county.

They are still awaiting results from that....there is also a mini spike today in nursing home cases.

Oneida county health department is working with the state health department... and the nursing home task force is meeting tomorrow in a zoom meeting on that.

Interesting to note here...the average age of positive tests has dropped.

Its now 43 years old.... according to county executive anthony picente that's the lowest its ever been.

And 37 percent of the cases in the county are now 18-44 years old....that prompted another word of warning from picente.

It can happen to any age group and the other point to stress is that it can be carried from them even if they are asymptomatic to the elderly to their parents to their grandparents if they are not wearing masks and if they are not socially distancing.

He also warned businesses will be fined if they do not enforce the mask rule.

And he warned against large gatherings like the graduations over the weekend and impending parties for the fourth of july.

Lets take a look at the oneida county numbers... 20 new cases...13 are from nursing homes.

That pushes the number of active cases to 319.

<change > 27 are hospitalized...five are outside the county....and 13 of the total number are from nursing homes.

Over 47-thousand tests have been performed...the county executive said they are testing over a seven day average over 1000 per day.

In herkimer county...no new cases after a jump over the weekend.

There are 22 active cases.

<change > just one person remains hospitalized.

Over 12-thousand 200 tests have been performed.

And in otsego county...no new cases today.

There are two active cases in the county.

<change > nobody is hospitalized and over 55-hundred tests have been performed.

Kristen back to you.
