A standalone bill.

The stimulus money alabamains are receiving from the government is subject to the alabama state tax.

One member of the alabama house of representatives is trying to change that.

Waay-31's bridget divers is live in downtown huntsville with new information on the proposed bill.

Bridget?

Dan -- i spoke with representative andy whitt earlier today about his proposed bill to not have stimulus money subject to the alabama state tax.

And he is not the only representative that thinks the stimulus money should not be taxed.

Because their constituents have been struggling during the pandemic.

And many have lost their jobs and are now unemployed.

"it was almost a personal issue with me because when our citizens are hurting as bad as they were.

They were unemployed, they were out of work.

And then the state of alabama to tax them, that's a poke in the eye.

And that just did not sit well with me."

The alabama house of representatives will be back in session on february second.

Representative whitt thinks his bill should be one of the earlier bills to be considered.
